OpenAI's New Leadership. Who's In, Who's Out?

AI company OpenAI is undergoing a leadership transformation, unveiling a new board led by Bret Taylor in the role of Chairman.

The renewed leadership aims to bring diverse perspectives to the forefront, ensuring effective governance and oversight for the future endeavors of OpenAI.

Who's New?

Larry Summers, the President Emeritus at Harvard University, and Adam D'Angelo, renowned as the co-founder and CEO of Quora, step in as independent directors.

Summers brings a wealth of experience, having served as the Secretary of the Treasury and Director of the National Economic Council in previous administrations.

D'Angelo's notable ventures include early investments in Instagram and his role in founding AI startup Poe.

CEO Sam Altman remains at the helm, with immediate priorities revolving around advancing research, bolstering safety measures, and refining customer-centric products.

According to Altman, the emphasis is on creating a diverse board for enhanced governance and independent reviews, with a continuous commitment to secure AI systems.

Other Changes

Mira Murati, returning as CTO, previously took the reins as interim CEO during Altman's absence.

Her efforts included advocating for the re-hiring of Altman and Brockman after their ousting from OpenAI.

Ilya Sutskever, however, will be stepping down from the board, marking a significant change in the leadership landscape.

This is after Sutskever posted on the X his regret for participating in the board.

Türkiye plans to submit new encryption bill to leave FATF "grey list"
Turkish Finance Minister Mohammad Simshek said that he will plan to submit a cryptocurrency-related bill to Congress as soon as possible so that Turkey can leave the “grey list” of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). “We plan to submit it to Congress as soon as possible.” Congress submits a bill on cryptocurrencies. After that, if there are no other political considerations, there will be no reason for Turkey to remain on the gray list.” The gray list is the common name for the FATF’s “Countries and Territories Subject to Enhanced Monitoring” list, which identifies countries and territories that are uncooperative in combating money laundering and terrorist financing. FATF downgrades Türkiye to gray list in 2021. The "high-risk countries and regions in the call to action" are known as the blacklist, and as of October 2023, North Korea, Iran and Myanmar have been designated. (Coinpost)

More than half of NounsDAO members left after the fork and withdrew 16,757 ETH from the treasury.
Odaily Planet Daily News After NounsDAO completed the fork on Friday night, more than half of Nouns NFT holders chose to leave. It is reported that the owners of 472 of the 846 Nouns NFTs (accounting for about 56% of the total) joined the fork and withdrew 16,757 ETH from the current Nouns DAO vault to the new DAO organization, worth $27.3 million. The move demonstrates the lack of confidence many members have in the current Nouns DAO, with millions of dollars worth of ETH having been spent to fund a series of Nouns-themed projects since the project was first launched in 2021, aiming to expand the brand's influence force. And the value of Nouns NFT has fallen significantly since its peak in late 2021 and early 2022. Data shows that the US dollar-denominated floor price of this series of NFTs has dropped from a peak of US$267,000 in December 2021 to approximately US$57,700 today. (Decrypt)
