OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) company renowned for its ChatGPT, has recently unveiled a collaboration with G42, an AI firm based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This partnership is oriented toward the deployment of OpenAI's state-of-the-art generative AI models across a diverse array of sectors, encompassing finance, energy, healthcare, and public services, both within the UAE and the broader region it influences.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said:
“Leveraging G42's industry expertise, we aim to empower businesses and communities with effective solutions that resonate with the nuances of the region."
Under the chairmanship of Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security adviser, G42 aims to harness OpenAI's profound expertise to empower businesses and communities with tailor-made AI solutions attuned to the nuances of the region.
G42 and OpenAI have officially launched a strategic partnership, with the aim of deploying highly advanced AI capabilities fine-tuned for the UAE and its surrounding regions
While the specific financial terms of this partnership remain undisclosed, this alliance forms a pivotal part of the UAE government's overarching endeavour to foster its technological ecosystem and assert itself as a global leader in AI innovation.
At the heart of these initiatives is Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, the world's first graduate-level institution singularly dedicated to advancing AI research and education.
The partnership will also leverage the existing AI infrastructure in the UAE, including Microsoft's Azure data centres.
G42, as part of its AI platform designed to boost regional adoption, intends to make use of these valuable resources.
In parallel, G42 has engaged in a collaborative effort with Cerebras Systems, a US-based AI company, to develop the world's most extensive supercomputer for AI training.
This partnership also sets its sights on supporting the region in establishing robust AI regulations and governance.
During a visit to Abu Dhabi in June as part of his AI "world tour," Sam expressed his endorsement of international AI regulation, commending the UAE's proactive approach toward AI discussions long before it gained global prominence.
This partnership signifies a significant milestone for OpenAI, an organisation founded in 2015 with the mission of aligning AI with human values and advancing the betterment of humanity.
Over the years, OpenAI has ascended to prominence in the field of AI, particularly following the launch of ChatGPT.
The collaboration with G42 is poised to extend OpenAI's footprint across the Middle East and beyond, while also ushering in fresh opportunities and challenges for the global AI community.
