OpenAI's New AI Model GPT-5 Expected To Launch By 2026
According to PANews, OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer, Mira Murati, recently revealed that the company's next-generation artificial intelligence model, GPT-5, is expected to be launched by the end of 2025 or early 2026. This model is anticipated to achieve doctoral-level intelligence in specific tasks, marking a significant leap in artificial intelligence technology.
The GPT-5, internally codenamed 'Gobi' and 'Arrakis', is a multimodal model with 520 trillion parameters, a significant increase from the previous generation GPT-4, which had about 20 trillion parameters. This massive scale of parameters suggests its potential powerful capabilities. Murati compared the progress from GPT-4 to GPT-5 to a leap from high school to college level, indicating a significant improvement in the new model's complexity and capabilities.
It's worth noting that this release time is significantly different from early rumors. The market had previously predicted that GPT-5 might be released at the end of 2023 or the summer of 2024. However, Murati's latest statement has pushed the timeline to the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has emphasized that there is currently no fixed release schedule.
