Monero CCS wallet was suspected of being stolen, resulting in a loss of 2675.73 XMR
According to Monero Github, before September 1 this year, 2675.73 XMR (approximately US$460,000) in Monero’s Community Crowdfunding Wallet (CCS) was emptied. The specific reason is not yet known. Here is the timeline of events:
On April 12, 2020, the founder fluffypony (Riccardo Spagni) created a new CCS wallet and shared the key with Luigi. Luigi accesses the CCS wallet via the Wire app and GPG-encrypted email;
After fluffypony was arrested on August 3, 2021, in order to deal with the incident, most of the CCS wallet balances were transferred to the hot wallet by Luigi;
On May 10, 2023, the last transfer was by Luigi from the CCS wallet to the hot wallet;
From 11:58 pm on September 1, 2023 to 12:07 am on September 2, the CCS wallet was emptied in 9 transactions;
In September 2023, the CCS wallet received donations for Lovera, (the only proposal requiring funds);
On September 28, 2023, Luigi logged into the CCS wallet to recharge the hot wallet and found that the balance was approximately 4.6 XMR, representing the donation to Lovera in September; no additional transfers occurred after September 2;
On September 28, 2023 (a few hours later), Luigi spoke to binaryFate and confirmed that the general fund was intact. Later, Luigi, binaryFate and fluffypony discussed;
From September 28 to the present, the core team has been conducting internal discussions; Luigi and fluffypony have also conducted relevant evidence collection work, but no evidence of violation has been found.
